Patch - Error message C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt
Question: Patch - Error message C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt
http://support.topics-ent.com/downloads/autoexec-nt_repair.exe
Solution:
The issue you have described relates to installation problems and the following error message: “The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications”.
This appears to be an issue with Windows XP SP2 and can be resolved by re-installing some files from the original WindowsXP CD (see Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767 ).
Option A - Download a patch to replace corrupted file 1. Click on the following link or type it into the address bar of your web browser: http://www.topics-ent.com/downloads/autoexec-nt_repair.exe 2. Click on Run at the File Download window 3. The patch will download. If you see an Internet Explorer - Security Warning window, click Run again. 4. An Autoexec.net Repair Utility box appears. Click OK. 5. If an error occurred running the program, go to Step B, otherwise the problem should be resolved and the program will run normally.
Option B - Restore the files from the Windows CD 1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your CD drive (cancel any automatic installation program that may start) 2. Click on Start button on the lower left corner of the screen and select Run 3. Type the following into the Open field on the screen and then click on OK: cmd 4. At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press Enter after each command. (Note the space between the underscore and the “c:\windows\...” in each line.)
expand D:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt expand D:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com
5. Type in the following command and press Enter to exit the DOS window exit
** replace the letter “D:\” in the above text with the letter for your CD drive (most likely D:\ or E:\ or F:\) 6. Restart your PC.
